I think it’s quite ironic for those who feel wiser and superior than many of those who are younger than them, as if the number of years one has been breathing has much meaning to it.
Have you ever listened to a young, innocent child’s thoughts, feelings, and perspectives? The profoundness of the words that come out of their mouths has me speechless quite often. The way they think sometimes, is so straight forward yet vastly profound, I think to myself, why was I unable to come up with such a brilliant solution? At such a young age, I believe the reason is because they have a clear thought process. They have a better ability to perceive the world as a kind and peaceful home. I suppose over time as we continue our days, we start to see the darkness more and more, obscuring our perception of the world as a sickening place. I myself have slightly fallen into this type of perception, ashamed of humanity. Some may say that a child’s perception is instead naive, not that they are unable to understand what is really out there. But I believe, more people need to look past the negativity that surface when characterizing humanity. Call me a contemporary humanist, but I think maybe these kids have it right. Looking past the faults of this world, clears our view and allows us to develop a resolution that may just be the light in a dark room.
This is just my interpretation of things I have perceived over the years, but maybe just maybe, kids can be right. A part of growing up is considering the millions of perspectives out there and allowing those to widen your horizons. To see a situation in a way you may not have before, provides one with a better ability to asses a situation and make the right decisions. No matter how old or how young someone may be, I believe that it’s always good to just hear them out, just listen.

The other night, I was talking to my boyfriend about my pursuing of my doctoring career. I was describing my feeling of the pressure I was receiving from family members and the fear of possibly failing. I kept thinking, I need to make them proud. But I thought again to myself late that night it’s not as important to make my entire family proud, but I also have to keep in mind I’m doing this for myself as well. All this hard work and years more ahead of me, I need to always keep that in mind. This is my dream that will take years to work on. But for those dreams to become my reality is what I am striving at. I have wanted this for myself my entire life, and that is part of my motivation I tend to forget at times. I can never give up on myself and my dreams. Never should I doubt myself because I know that I can do anything I set my mind to. In seven years I will be carrying the title of a doctor. This is me, pursing my dreams.
